We left the Meadowbank Stadium the home of Dorking Wanderers ‘B’ team with no points after losing to our opponent’s only chance of the match in the 86th minute; most observers both home or away would have said a draw would have been a much fairer result. And yet we had the more clear-cut chances throughout the 90 minutes but were unable to finish and so were left to ‘lick our wounds’ and look forward to our next match against Selsey next weekend at Home where we have a chance to arrest this bad run of form we are currently experiencing. This result drops us to second place in the table with 14 games to play.
We had a few absentees from our normal squad but still took the field with a strong team but with only 3 substitutes. We welcomed into our front Mario Quaiascca to partner Jamie Byatt up front and Ryan ‘Butch’ Smith came back to anchor our midfield. The first half was a very even affair with the only chances of note falling to us, but as mentioned above we were unable to convert any of them. The second half continued in the same vein with some better chances for us to open the scoring, but then came the fateful moment in the 86th minute which ultimately turned out to be the winning goal.
Even though we lost, we can take various positives from the game – it was a much better performance than six days ago against Chessington and Hook FC and with a bit of luck we could have taken the points – we move on to next Saturday against Selsey.
