We hosted Badshot Lea on Saturday 22nd November, and the weather forecast was not good on the morning of the match, with persistent rain around. When the game began, the rain got heavier, and at half time the three match officials decided that the game should be abandoned. It did not meet with universal approval from both sets of players and respective management teams; in fairness to the officials, the rain did not stop all afternoon, so perhaps the right decision was made in the end.
So what of the 45 minutes that were played? We welcomed back Luis Oliveira at right back and, with Jason Bloor missing with a bruised foot he picked up at training, we replaced him with Callum O’Keefe. We also welcomed back our former captain, Adam Green, from his brief two-week sojourn at Fleet Town; he took a place on our subs’ bench.
The opening twenty minutes were certainly played in our half, with Badshot Lea trying to create chances; there were not many that troubled our defence and goalkeeper, though. From the 20-minute mark we began to grow into the game and had at least three good opportunities to take the lead, but the Badshot goalkeeper was in inspired form to keep the ball out of his net.
The half ended 0–0, and the match was abandoned shortly afterwards.
