Jimmy Hendry RIP

It is with great sadness that Epsom & Ewell FC must pay tribute to another yeoman of the club, Jimmy Hendry, who has recently passed away. Jimmy performed his physio duties expertly alongside our manager and his great friend, Glyn Mandeville, from 2014 to 2018. He was introduced to the club through the kind assistance of his son Robert, who was playing for us at the time, and his offer to help was gratefully accepted.

All our players loved his dry Scottish humour, and he quickly immersed himself in the culture of the club. He carried out his duties with care and distinction. Jimmy had honed his skills as a physio with clubs such as Charlton Athletic and Chelsea, but of course, joining us was the pinnacle of his career! One claim to fame was that he was responsible for introducing a very young player, Matt Elliott, to Charlton Athletic in the late 80s, leading to Matt’s signing as a professional at the start of his distinguished football career.

Whilst assisting us, Jimmy continued his work at the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, where he was highly regarded and respected. Jimmy had not been in good health recently, and he bore this very bravely.

Epsom & Ewell Football Club would like to express our gratitude for his service to the club and offer our sincere condolences to all of Jimmy’s family and friends.

You will be greatly missed, Jimmy. Rest in peace.
