The Salts made a few changes and rested several players after Tuesday’s great cup win. The first half was very even, with both teams struggling against the wind blowing through the trees. The lofty position of Alton did not faze the Salts, who matched them all over the pitch.

Unfortunately, centre-back Nick Bostan picked up an injury in the 23rd minute and had to be replaced by Anthony Nazareth. It remained 0-0 at half-time.

The second half was halted midway through when an Alton player landed badly and required lengthy treatment. Well done to our physio, Jodie, who stepped in to help once again. The Salts then brought on birthday boy Niall Stillwell for Jack Torbett in the 69th minute. On 72 minutes, we made a double substitution, bringing on Ali Fofahan and Kionte Gillfillian-Waul for Brendan Murphy-McVey and Luke Miller.

In the 89th minute, Carl Oblitey robbed a defender and set up Kionte Gillfillian-Waul, who went on a run, drawing the Alton keeper out before passing to substitute Ali Fofahan, who fired home to make it 1-0 to the Salts.

The referee then played 12 minutes of added time, during which Callum Wilson replaced Jason Bloor. The Salts completed the double over Alton—another three points and a clean sheet. A fitting tribute to Alex McKay, who sadly passed away earlier this week.
