For the first time in a while, we kept the same starting line-up from our fantastic win in the FA Vase on Saturday. New signing Tobi Falodi was on the bench, having recently joined from Guildford City.
The Salts started well, and in the 19th minute, an Adam Green corner was sent into the near post, causing panic in the Sandhurst defence. The ball was turned into the net by one of their own players to give us the lead. At the other end, goalkeeper Dan O’Donovan pulled off an outstanding save, diving to his left and using his legs to keep the score at 1-0.
We continued to create good chances in the first half but couldn’t convert them. The score remained 1-0 to the Salts at half-time.
The second half was a different story, with Sandhurst pushing forward and equalising in the 52nd minute through Shane Qoloni. We had several more chances to regain the lead, but once again, our finishing let us down.
In the 87th minute, Will Kendall broke free, beat the offside trap, and was one-on-one with the keeper. However, he somehow fired his shot high and wide. We were made to pay for that miss in the dying moments when Sandhurst found the winner in the 89th minute through Mark Holley.
It was a disappointing performance all round, particularly after such a promising start.
