After our great victory against Chipstead Football Club the previous Tuesday, we were eager to build momentum against Camberley Town (the Krooners) on Saturday, 7th September—and we were not disappointed.

We were without Stefan Aiwone in central defence but welcomed back Ali Fofahan, who would play a pivotal role as the game progressed.

A good crowd turned out for the match, with an excellent Epsom following hoping to see us continue our form from the Chipstead game on the previous Tuesday. For those unfamiliar with Camberley Town’s ground, the pitch has a slight slope, and we played the first half uphill. Despite this, we matched our opponents well and were arguably the better team. Chances were few and far between for both sides, not helped by the bouncy pitch conditions, despite heavy rain over the previous two days. Half-time: 0-0.

In the second half, we were clearly the dominant side, and it was surprising we hadn’t taken the lead sooner. We thought we had finally broken the deadlock with 15 minutes to go, when Ali Fofahan scored, only for the Assistant Referee’s flag to go up for offside. It was a highly questionable decision that baffled both home and away supporters. However, as the saying goes, we ‘move on.’

As the game seemed to be heading for a goalless draw, we took a short throw-in on the right side of the pitch. A neat interchange of passes between Luke Miller and Ethan Brazier followed, before a cross found Carl Oblitey on the edge of the six-yard box. After the ball bobbled around, there was Ali Fofahan to stab it home and make it 1-0. It was no more than we deserved and was just reward for our dominance. The referee blew for full time a few minutes later, confirming our second victory of the season, which lifted us to 16th place in the division.

We now move on to another tough fixture away at Tooting & Mitcham next Saturday, where we’ll face Jamie Byatt and Alex Penfold, who helped us secure promotion two seasons ago. We eagerly anticipate that match as we look to build on this result.
