After a great comeback victory last week against Tooting and Mitcham United, the Epsom faithful turned up in a crowd of over ninety with a good level of optimism as we entertained Camberley Town who sat only seven points above us before the game started. How wrong you can be!!
Our team contained the returning Nick Wilson and Reece Tierney. Lewis Perch took his place up front after coming off the bench last week and scoring.
No sooner had the game started we found ourselves 1-0 down from a free kick and then shortly afterwards 2-0 down after an uncontested header went into our net. Worse was to come we found ourselves 3-0 down with less than half an hour played. In between the second and third goal we had a great chance to get a goal back but a free header in the Camberley penalty box went sailing over their bar. The half ended 3-0.
There were no changes made at half time and both teams appeared to be cancelling each other out, but midway through the half Camberley increased their lead from another uncontested header to make it 4-0 and shortly after they made it 5-0. This is how the game finished.
It is obvious that this was a very disappointing result and not what was required with many of the teams around us not playing due to the bad weather of the previous week.
We take a rest from league action for our next game when we play high flying Virginia Water from the Combined Counties North Division on Tuesday 16th January in the Southern Combination League Cup at the Reg Madgwick stadium in Cobham at 19.45. Our next league action is on Friday 26th January when we play host to our landlords (Cobham) again with a 19.45 kick off.
