We played our first competitive league game at home on Tuesday 15th August at our new home of the Reg Madgwick Stadium in Cobham against very tough opponents in Redhill, who we fully expect to be at the ‘business end’ of the table come the season end.
The preparations for the match did not start too well when our goalkeeper, Harvey Keogh was injured in the warmup, so Toby Colwell made his debut in goal for us.
Redhill started the match brightly and were clearly on top for the first 30 minutes with us just being thankful that they had not scored. Then more calamity for us as within a few minutes our Captain Callum Wilson went off with an ankle injury and then our tenacious wing back, Tommy Williams went down holding his hamstring and was also substituted. Soon after those two substitutions we were 1-0 down and then shortly after in injury time in the first half, we found ourselves 2-0 down after a superb shot from outside the penalty area. The scoreline was a fair reflection of the first half.
The pressure from Redhill did not let up in the second half and various chances came and went from them until the 70th minute when a former Salt, Adam Grant made it 3-0.
We eventually got on the score sheet after a terrible error from the Redhill goalkeeper in the 79th minute which left Nick Inwugwu to score a tap-in for his first goal for the Club. We did not threaten after that goal and neither did Redhill, so the game ended in a 3-1 defeat.
We need to put this result to history and get ready for a hugely important FA Cup tie against Met Police at the Reg Madgwick stadium on Friday evening at 19:45. Why not come on down and support the ‘lads?
