We travelled to the eventual title winners of our division last season of Shoreham FC for what looked like a really good test of where we are in pre-season.We had a good few of the players we have signed for the new campaign in the side and we began on the front foot playing some very good football with an excellent shape. It was no surprise when we went ahead after a defender was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area – who else but Jann Stanley stepped up and made it 1-0. We controlled most of the rest of the first half. HT 0-1.
We made a few changes for the second half to give our substitutes some vital game time. These changes inevitably unsettled us and our opponents were certainly having their best period of the game, but not really forcing our keeper into a proper save. They equalised from a shot just outside the penalty box. It looked like from that moment that they might go on and find the winner, how wrong can you be? We scored a very good goal in the 89th minute to seal the win. However, there was still time for some crunching tackles from our opponents one of which incensed our players and the offender was rightly booked and had to be reminded that it was a friendly.
All in all a satisfying result and we move on to another friendly at Farley Rovers next Saturday. Then we close out our pre-season friendlies away at Corinthian Casuals for the Stella Lamont Trophy on the following Tuesday evening (1st August)
