Over the close season, we will be interviewing some of our players as we look back on our very successful season. We will also give updates on how the 3G installation is progressing at our new ground share at Cobham FC.
We caught up with our Club Captain a few days after our Play Off final triumph.
(Q) So Gideon how are you a few days after the playoff final and after making your 100th appearance for the football club?
(A) Wow, still reliving the experience and am very pleased that we achieved promotion under some difficult circumstances throughout the season – we managed to come out rightfully on top on the day in the playoff final and our class shone through. I am very much looking forward to playing at Step 5 next season.
(Q) What are your reflections on the season?
(A) There were many highs and lows and a range of emotions but all were worth it in the end. The penalty shootout against Selsey was nerve-jangling to take part in, but I was totally focused on the penalty I had to take and it went in!
(Q) A particular high point?
My 100th appearance on the playoff final day at home in front of our largest attendance was absolutely brilliant, especially with the result on the day; people had to drag me off at the end of the game as I was totally enjoying the experience. Of course, I did not mention what I think was the club’s goal of the season with my goal at Forest Row; I did say what I thought, but then I would say that wouldn’t I?
(Q) Is there anything funny about the season you would like to share?
The return of Alex Penfold who certainly livened the dressing room up he is ‘the life and soul of any party’; he also brings a certain level of experience when talking to all our less experienced players.
(Q) What will you get up to before we begin pre-season training?
Spending time with family and friends, very much looking forward to the Club presentation night and seeing the boys again.
(Q) A ‘little bird’ tells me that Epsom and Ewell might be getting a new right back in about 16 years’ time, is that correct?
That is 100% correct, my partner (Chloe) and I are expecting our first child to be born at the start of the new season – if I look tired please forgive me and also I will be looking for any willing babysitters amongst our supporters!
Lastly, I just want to thank all the supporters who have been brilliant all the season – the boys really appreciate it.
Keep your eyes peeled for another interview soon.
