With the end of the season comes tense times. We finished 2nd in the league as Mile Oak scored a late equaliser at home to Dorking Wanderers B last Saturday allowing us to steal in to secure our highest finish since 1984.

Selsey managed to hold onto their playoff spot on the final day as they won 1-0 away to already relegated Hailsham Town. Even though Arundel still has a game to play on Tuesday at home to East Preston, they can’t catch the Seals above them.

Meaning the playoffs are set, Epsom & Ewell FC v Selsey and Wick v Godalming Town FC. Ourselves and Wick have both obtained home advantage in the semi-finals through our finishing spots and we will have home advantage in the final should we be victorious.

Epsom Form

We come into the playoffs this season in better form than last, with three wins in our last three, which includes a last-minute winner against Selsey two weeks ago. Lewis Pearch’s 91st-minute header would help us on the way to beat Selsey and maintain our challenge for second. You can read the report from our win over Selsey here.

Selsey Form

Selsey on the other hand has only picked up four points from the last nine available in the league which includes a 1-1 draw with Arundel at The High Street Ground only nine days ago. However, if you look slightly further back they [Selsey] went on a four-match winning streak, followed up by a draw at home to eventual champions Shoreham before they visited Fetcham Grove.

Our Meetings

We have faced Selsey four times since our transfer to the Southern Combination Leagues, in those four matches, we have won four and in both campaigns, we have won by the same scoreline. 4-0 home and away last season, followed up by two 3-2 wins this season. It will be another tight game as both teams look to make it to the playoff final.

Last Season

We [Epsom & Ewell] missed out on the playoff final last season as we lost 2-1 to Midhurst & Easebourne away. Midhurst finished second last season so had a home advantage in both the semi-final against us and the final against Shoreham, showing it does count! Selsey missed out on the playoffs last season by nine points.
