We welcomed promotion rivals Godalming Town to Fetcham Grove on Tuesday 7th March. It was a bitterly cold evening which affected the attendance markedly; this fixture would have brought quite a few more through the turnstiles especially as the away team normally are well supported away from their home base.

We welcomed back Chris Boulter into central defence and Mario Quaissca into a central striking role.

The match was only 7 minutes old, and we found ourselves 1-0 down after a free kick was awarded to our opponents just outside the penalty box. The original free kick was partially cleared but when the ball was put back into the box it was headed easily into our net. We responded well to this setback and began to impose ourselves on the opposition and were incredibly unlucky not to equalise soon after when a ball was crossed into the penalty box and as the ball spun along the goal line, we were unable to put the ball into the net. Half time 0-1.

There were no changes to our team at half time and just over 10 minutes into that period of play we found ourselves further behind after an innocuous ball over the top of our defence with the ball nestling into the back of our net. If we had any thought of getting back into the game, we had to make some changes to the playing personnel, and this is what we did on the hour mark with Nick Wilson, Jamie Byatt and Steve Springett entering the fray. In the 71st minute, we got a goal back after a fine finish from Chris Boulter after a corner was only half cleared; it was a fine strike and was unstoppable. The pressure started to get to our opponents and the comeback was complete 10 minutes later after a great pass from Gavin Qunityne found Mario Quaissca in the right-hand channel with the opposition goalkeeper in ‘no man’s land’ he was able to pass to Jamie Byatt who shot the ball into the net: 2-2. With over 10 minutes left, the game was there for the taking and we had another couple of good chances but they both came to nothing. The game ended 2-2.

It was a good result and nothing short of what we deserved after the way we applied ourselves after going 2 goals down. We move on to another home game this Saturday against the bottom-placed team, Montpelier Villa. There are no easy games at this time of the season for any team and the ‘lads’ need your support more than ever. Come on down to Fetcham Grove to cheer them on.
