We eventually returned to action after a 5 week’s absence due to the weather and fixture diary to a match at home against Oakwood who were languishing near the bottom of the table in front of a good crowd of 84.

Our team had a few changes from the last time we played due mainly to injury and unfortunately, none of our three new signings was available.

We started well and could have taken some of our early chances and then in the 23rd minute fell behind to one of the most innocuous goals you will see with at least 3 Oakwood players having the opportunity to score after a ball into our box – 0-1.  We continued to press but all to no avail.  At half-time, the whistle blew and an Epsom player had an altercation with a supporter and was sent off by the referee.

We started the second half with ten men and fell further behind in the 63rd minute after a lob from 40 yards out went over our keeper to make it 2-0.  This was against the run of play even though we only had 10 men.  We eventually got a goal back from Athan Smith-Joseph in the 76th minute after a cross that the opposition keeper failed to deal with.  Again, we were far the better side in the closing stages and should have equalised on one or two occasions but eventually, time ran out and we the final score remained at 2-1.

This was a very disappointing result, but we have to ‘bounce back’ next week away at Hailsham Town to get our season back on track.
